The Gender Impact

At Lotus Leadership Institute, we believe that gender issues impact and influence people at the individual and organizational level. From interpersonal gender dynamics in the work place to individual pressures to comply with gender-appropriate behaviors, we feel it is important to understand the impact of gender.

Additionally, we strive to employ strategies that minimize negative gender impact and empower all people, both women and men, to maximize their potential.

Power dynamics- Power is a complicated resource that certainly impacts how people interact with one another. Research has shown that women and men respond to power differently and use power in different ways. We can enhance organizational effectiveness if we learn how to connect and engage over our power.

Interpersonal Relations- Women and men have complex relations with each other. Many scholars, doctors, and researchers, suggest that women and men speak differently, reason differently, and behave differently—making communication and interaction sometimes difficult.

Access to Authority Positions: Many women are finding opportunities to assume positions with significant formal authority, and yet, women still remain underrepresented in many areas of the public sector (Kellerman & Rhode, 2007).

Gender Socialization: People are socialized to behave in “gender appropriate” ways. These behaviors define what is feminine and what is masculine and are often constraining. Gender deviant behavior can have significant consequences, especially within organizations and the work place.

Stereotypical Behaviors: We must unlearn the stereotypes of behavior labeling based on gender, and relearn that traits, regardless of them being masculine or feminine, can be helpful to everyone in certain situations.

The Lotus Leadership Institute’s workshops, conferences, and individual consultation services will help you and your organization understand how power influences your purpose and how to maximize your power potential in order to improve your capacity to exercise leadership.
